This Edison Carbon Lamp is a true Edison "U" shape bamboo carbon filament lamp. It was manufactured circa 1888 and was the finest lamp style manufactured commercially by the original Edison Lamp Works. This lamp was made before the old lamp works became the Edison General Electric Company in 1889, 3 years before GE. This Edison label reads "16 c. Edison's Patents" (with no patent dates). These rare labels without any patent dates were used on Edison lamps circa 1882 - 1890 mainly because of the "Sawyer Man" patent law suit decision by the US Supreme Court "against" certain early Edison patents. This Edison Bamboo Carbon "Frost" Lamp has a long neck, rolled brass shoulder, plaster of Paris "flat bottom" and platinum leads. The Edison Frost Lamp was the "Premier lamp" of its day. There were none equal to its quality, beauty and utility. The globe is 2.5 inches in diameter and the bulb length measures 5.75 inches. The "U" shaped bamboo filament is retired, but this is still a very rare and extraordinary Edison Lamp.
