This "working" Perkins incandescent carbon lamp has his signature "Y" shape solid glass stem and an early brass and fiber Thomson Houston base. It has a square cross-section carbon hair-pin "U" shaped filament connected to full length platinum lead-in wires. The contact ends of the filament are clamped between enveloping folds of its flattened platinum lead-in wires and secured with metalized carbon paste. This type of construction suggests a manufacture date circa 1888 - 1892. One exceptional feature of this beautiful Perkins lamp is its upper filament support. The "U" curve end of the carbon filament is internally secured at the evacuation tip end of the glass globe by a "platinum wire hook" anchored via a secondary glass stem. This is a fine functional Perkins incandescent carbon lamp.
