Here is a rare and complete early scientific laboratory "Open Copper Trough" Battery. This trough battery has an extraordinary cast "twin chamber" zinc plate. This twin chamber zinc plate has one brass binding post molded onto one top rail of the zinc casting which acts as the "positive" electric contact. The copper trough box has a brass binding post soldered onto one top rail which acts as the "negative" electric terminal. The copper electrode plate (box) of this battery cell also doubles as the fluid vessel which hold the electrolyte chemistry. The zinc twin chamber mold has 4 wood (lignum vitae and brass) supports, each is pin fastened to a corner of the zinc chambered plate and acts to support and insulate the zinc from the copper. The copper box has two copper plate walls soldered to the copper box bottom and act as additional accumulator plates. This battery stands 4.0 inches tall, is 4.0 inches wide and 6.0 inches long. This unique open copper trough battery is a rare exhibit. It is a valued example for early scientific instrument collectors and early electric collectors alike.
