This Exide battery jar, is in great condition with a beautifully embossed "Exide" logo. During the early part of this century these batteries, or "Voltaic accumulators" as they were once called, played an important part in ushering in the success of electricity. This ingenious device made it possible to have the convenience of electricity in the most remote areas. Although a number of great innovators can be noted as having influenced the development of the storage battery, the inspiration of what we know as the storage battery in this millennium started with Count Alessandro Volta when he invented his famous "Voltaic Pile" in the year 1800. This fine "Exide" example measures 5 x 7 x 12 inches and has a nice slight crisp green tint in the glass. The glass thickness averages a solid 0.25 inches.
