Here is a very exciting piece of early electric history. This rare Sawyer-Man incandescent carbon lamp has a hand blown glass globe and free standing retired "Figure 8" carbon filament. The "figure 8" filament is the exclusive hallmark of early Sawyer-Man lamps. This Sawyer-Man lamp also has full length platinum lead-in wires passing all the way through its one piece "Y" shaped glass pipette stem. In addition, this great lamp has a smooth hand hammered "high collar" brass base with a red composition contact insulator button. All these fine points regarding lamp design date this lamp as one of the very early Sawyer-Man lamps made near the time when the Sawyer-Man Illuminating Company was formed July 16, 1883. This Sawyer-Man incandescent lamp is a distinguished early incandescent lamp and includes a very well preserved partial, "Sawyer-Man" paper label.
