This is a great exhibit lamp because of its special place in the sequence of lighting history. It is a clear glass New Type Edison Lamp with a beautiful "U" shaped hairpin carbon filament and a plaster of Paris filled "flat bottom" brass base. This lamp design represents the last Edison lamp style to use his famous "U" shaped hairpin carbon filament and, because of its history, this style Edison is a very desirable collector lamp. The "U" shaped hairpin filament in this lamp is intact and working on typical house voltage. Another great feature of this museum exhibit lamp is its perfect glass tip.
