Famous Edison Lamp Collection DISCOVERED After Century in Darkness

Artifact 11 - This lamp was made in 1882 by Sir Hiram S. Maxim. On July 20, 1880, Hiram Stevens Maxim was granted U.S. Patent No. 230,310 for the electric incandescent lamp that displays his famous Maxim "M" shaped filament. The Maxim "M" filament was developed with assistance from Inventor, Lewis Latimer (see U.S. Patent 252,386). In 1878, Hiram Maxim became chief engineer of the United States Electric Lighting Company, and later became a famous Defendant in the technology infringement legal battles waged for a decade by Edison over the rights to the invention of the electric incandescent lamp. Barely a few of this type of Maxim M lamp with its pristine brass and red hard rubber disk socket have survived. This is one magnificent example of the quality and elegance that symbolizes Maxim's visionary work.

2006 is this lamp's 124 th. Anniversary
